Bere Regis Masterplan

A Dorset village extension adjacent to a RAMSAR

The site is located within the flood plain of the River Bere and slopes up to the RAMSAR heathland (Wetland of International Importance) of Black Hill. To manage the impact of the residential development on the landscape, the masterplan proposed extensive green space and restricted housing numbers. The siting of the development was diverted away from the ecologically sensitive area.

Sustainability was a key consideration - the scheme incorporates SUDS drainage, CHP and wind power generation, as well as starter business units for residents to work close to home.

The green spaces include woodland, allotments and small holdings, two village greens, country walks in open fields and sports facilities for the village, diverting attention away from the RAMSAR site.
