A new masterplan for the 1970s Grade II* listed estate
KLA produced a new masterplan for the 1970s Grade II* listed estate designed by Neave Brown with external spaces designed by Janet Jack. The original design provided the large open green space as an integral part of the residential estate.
The masterplan follows on from a play pathfinder project undertaken by KLA in the estate, and it continues the aims for creating a cross generational ‘playable landscape’. Security, play opportunities, seating and community gardening possibilities were all ideas raised in the consultation workshops by residents. KLA also introduced an arts schedule of dance workshops as part of the masterplan programme to engage young people.
The design concept proposes a landscape of Big Fields – using bold planting as a boundary to the road and wild flower areas closer to the buildings.
