Dean Gardens Transforming Dean Gardens

The project ambitions are to rejuvenate the space for the local community, provide exciting play facilities, and integrate the park with the surrounding streets and wider neighborhood. Through these initiatives, a new identity for Dean Gardens is starting to form, encouraged by the use and engagement of local people.
The proposal takes its design language in part from the conservation area that ends at the foot of the garden, allowing this ‘village character’ to spill into the park and reconnect Dean Gardens to its rich history. A key element of the design is proposing a new community garden. Using a ridge and furrow agricultural pattern which links to the park’s history, the community garden is placed to activate the park and encourage community stewardship and engagement. In our current proposal there is a large mound with integrated seating and play elements forms a fantastic feature in the park, allowing the landscape to be an element of play. Strong cycling routes through the park and a playful cycling route for children is also one of the key ingredients, encouraging sport and play for a variety of age ranges while connecting the space to larger public realm strategies within Ealing.
